It has been my experience, when I tell people I'm a hypnotherapist
they tend to shy away from the subject or tell me "Oh, don't
look me in the eyes!", as they throw their hands up to cover
their face and turn their heads away. They think I'm a Medusa
or vampire, who has the power to turn them into stone or make
them my zombie slave. This "Hollywood" or stage hypnosis
image of hypnosis is truly not the case.
Hypnosis in reality is an American Medical Association (AMA) approved
method of therapy. A person is placed in a relaxed state. In this
state a person's subconscious concentration becomes very focused.
During this focused state the person is able to accept positive
messages for change. For example, to cope with stress and anxiety,
love weight, stop smoking, overcome phobias, relieve and control
pain, lower blood pressure, change unwanted lifestyle patterns,
or improve wanted lifestyle patterns, or a number of other life
involving situations. All with the person still aware of what's
going on around them, safe and in complete control of themselves.
In short, instead of a mystical, mysterious spell hypnosis is
simply a tool used to improve one's life. Hypnosis can help YOU!

Attempt
the Impossible In Order To Improve Your Work
Top
By
Danny A. Cabrera C.Ht.
Bette Davis once said, "Attempt the impossible in order to
improve your work." Now a legend and nearly 20 years after
her death she is still considered by her peers and many to be
one of the best actors of all time. Do you want to be considered
one of the very best in your line of work? Do you want to be more
prosperous in the work you do? Many would say they want success
but somehow come across obstacles, the impossible, that seem to
get in our way. You may recognize these obstacles and attempt
to overcome them but somehow they overcome you and you may feel
stuck. What is the best way to not only attempt but overcome those
dreadful roadblocks?
First change your thinking about the word impossible. The word
impossible implies never obtainable. Begin to think of your impossibles
as challenges. A challenge is something that can be won! The next
crucial step is to be prepared to take a close look at yourself.
Examine yourself more than just looking in the mirror. Take a
closer look at your inner spirit your very heart and soul, your
essence. It is important to get to know your true loves and desires.
Listen to your inner knowing it will guide and tell you. Get to
know who you really are. Remember this step is on going. We should
always assess ourselves. Why? Because we are ever changing and
growing as a being. Now, ask yourself why you are doing what you
are doing? Are you doing your work because it pays well? Perhaps
it's a job uncle Bill helped you get with the company he works
for. Many fall or are led into jobs that turn into careers. If
this is you, get out now! Run in fact, you can never be happy
or successful. If you are not doing what you love and what can
feed your inner spirit, no true success will ever come. Know that
every career has its ups and downs. It's the cycle of life. A
good example, right now would be our real estate market. It's
not as good as it has been in the past, but it will turn. Find
a career for the love of it and not the money. Success and money
will come by doing what feeds your inner self. Bette Davis always
knew she wanted to be an actress and she followed that path.
Another important step is believing in you. This aspect is just
as important as the above mentioned. It goes equally hand in hand
if fact. To believe in yourself you must love, like, and respect
yourself. If you don't, no one else will. This is something I
remind all my clients and myself all the time. It's easy to treat
others with more like, love, and respect than you do yourself.
Examine yourself, are you guilty of this? When you treat yourself
as you often treat others, many decisions you have to make regarding
you career becomes much easier to make. When Bette first came
to Hollywood the studios were changing many of the actor's names
to make them better commodities for marketing. Believing in herself
and her acting abilities Bette said no I'm keeping my name. This
may be considered a brave decision for some knowing that by saying
no to a name change the studio could have said no to a contract.
She later believed in herself and her abilities to do her craft
once again by accepting a part in her first major role. A role
no one else wanted because it was not "glamorous." The
character was a drug addict who gave up her womanly virtue too
easily. This role made studio executives take note of her and
made them realize their little brown wren had something to offer
them at the box office. Believe in yourself and good will come.
In believing, like, loving and respecting yourself it is important
to know and recognize your short comings. You are human and not
one of us is perfect. What is important is to know your "imperfections"
and use them to your advantage or to not allow them to be hindrances.
I had a client, Vera, a career in sales, she was small in stature
and her voice was soft. These physical characteristics made it
easy for others to not take her seriously or to easily dominate
her. Once she developed a stronger belief in herself along with
more respect for herself. Her sales increased dramatically. No,
she did not have to take voice lessons or wear higher healed shoes.
She simply no longer allowed here stature to hold her back. In
fact later the same year I worked with her, she won a car for
her sales performance. It was an incentive her company offered
as a reward for its successful sales people.
Bette herself was not considered a beauty yet she was able to
play them in some of the roles she had. She used her inner beauty,
her belief in herself, to convey beauty on the screen. This is
what made Bette a revered actor and not just a Hollywood starlet
now long forgotten.
Keep attempting the challenge (impossible). Knowing, liking, loving
and respecting yourself are good tools to have in an on going
endeavor to improve your work. Believe in yourself, never give
up. Giving up is easy especially if you really don't love your
work, which is why I say to love your work. Passion for your work
will be automatic when you love it. Bette never quit and she loved
her work. She was known to be passionate about it. She ended her
life with two Oscars and an on going idolized respect. She is
immortalized as a part of Hollywood forever! Not to mention enough
money in the bank to be willed to her loved ones. Keep attempting!
Reach for your brass rings. In fact, reach for the gold and platinum
rings too. You are worth it!

Create
the Right Mindset for Weight Loss Top
By Sally Marks
While the number of weight loss programs, fitness centers and
diets continues to rise, the success rate of those who make lifestyle
changes and keep the weight off for one year or more are dismal
at best. According to a study published by Psychology Today, by
Traci Mann, PhD, a professor of psychology at UCLA, 41 percent
of those who diet gain back the weight they lost and more in less
than six months and suggests that the results are probably actually
closer to two thirds rather than 41 percent.
The expression "food for thought" takes on a new meaning
for Danny Cabrera, C.Ht. and his clients. The certified hypnotherapist
assists men, women and children throughout the Valley to unlock
their potential to overcome a plethora of obstacles and addictions,
including the right mindset to successfully lose weight. However,
Cabrera found the changes in an under used part of the body
the brain. The brain can make a significant difference when implementing
a new nutritional program or exercise regime. By helping clients
created the right mindset, their chances for winning at the losing
game becomes significantly greater. When left to one's own devices,
old habits and concepts are hard to break, but with the use of
hypnotherapy, Cabrera helps his clients succeed where they may
have failed in the past.
"While everyone knows that proper nutrition and exercise
are vital in losing and maintaining their ideal weight, a key
factor is often overlooked - the mind," and Cabrera, "Many
people are unsuccessful at losing weight because they haven't
addressed why they overeat in the first place. If you don't address
the inner reason for the problem, chances are you will not be
able to maintain the new regime for more than two or three months."
A case in point is Annie (not her real name) who came to see Cabrera
to lose weight. As he worked with her, Cabrera learned she suffered
from an onslaught of verbal abuse from her domineering husband.
The constant verbal taunts withered away at her self esteem. Food
was her only solace. She learned that many of her other relationships
were unhealthy as well. As she lost weight and became more physically
attractive, many of Annie's friends were uncomfortable with her
new image. With the use of hypnotherapy she changed her attitude
about food, got a divorce, made healthier friendships that didn't
rely on her being the "fat one of her group" and lost
50 pounds.
"Food is more than sustenance for most people," said
Cabrera. "It is used as a sedative or a form of escape. If
you don't recognize the underlying problem connected with obesity,
the problem is sure to reoccur. However, I believe that as human
beings well have the power within ourselves to change. We can
change regardless of who we are or what circumstances have happened
to us in the past. Once the conscious mind has made the decision
to change, the tool of hypnosis is all that is needed to convince
the subconscious mind of that change."
Although Cabrera says no one is exactly sure why hypnotherapy
works, the process is simple. Cabrera successfully helps his clients
experience a sense of deep relaxation and turns their attention
to an appropriate, focused suggestion. These suggestions help
people make positive changes within themselves.
With obesity as a national epidemic, many men and women will turn
to fad diets, prescription pill and the latest exercise DVD to
lose weight. For those who want to take a realistic and natural
approach to achieve the results they desire, hypnotherapy could
be the best navigational tool to set a new course for optimal
health.

Surviving
the Economy Without Losing Sanity Top
By Danny A. Cabrera C.Ht.
The world seems to be in disarray. Gas prices rise and lower never
returning to a reasonable price, employment cutbacks, stock market
all time lows. It seems we are living in a world of uncertainly.
We can worry about everything. What excessive worrying causes
many to do is enter into a panic state of being. This of course
causes our bodies to enter into a stress status. Stress is one
of the major causes of disease. What can be done to prevent illness
and disease? Illness could put more strain into our lives, including
financially. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! What can we do
to not feel the panic?
To begin we must understand the harm panic can create, aside from
stress. When we panic our clear level of thinking goes out the
window. We do things hap hazard which leads to more problems.
Many fire rescuers, for example often find victims dead who could
have easily survived had they not panicked. During these poor
souls panic they could not find easy escape routes thereby ending
in their demise. No one wants to end up this way. You don't have
to. Know you must and can prevent panic in yourself.
To help prevent panic, know you have more control over situations
in your life than you may have realized. Granted the state of
our economy is in a dire condition. However it is not the same
as being in a real fire. This difference can afford you time to
analyze your personal situation and make better decisions. Choose
to take care of yourself and not let the world's condition make
you panic. There always is a choice.
Choose to have more humor in your life. Humor is a fantastic way
to elevate the stresses in our lives. For example, watch more
comedy over watching CNN 24/7. You can keep abreast of the world
without over stimulation of negative news. Choose to return doing
the things you love or make you happy. Allow yourself to live
for today. Our only true control is in this very day. Remember
today is a gift which is why we call it the present.
Start realizing all the things in your life you are grateful for.
Begin to realize all the small to large things you are grateful
for. Write them down. Keep a daily journal of gratitude. Don't
take this too lightly. It's more than just a Pollyanna glad game.
Studies now show by doing this, simple exercise; there is an impact
on the brain to create the "happy" hormones. These hormones
eliminate mental depression. A gratitude list is also a good tool
to use when you want to manifest more good things into your life.
Take care of yourself first. This may sound selfish at first but
think about it. There is a reason the airlines ask parents and
caregivers to put the oxygen mask on themselves first. When we
care for ourselves first we are then better able to care for others.
When money is tight or uncertain it's easy to think we must deprive
ourselves of caring for ourselves. The opposite is true. This
is the time we really should take care of ourselves first and
foremost. Get a therapeutic massage. Make a hypnotherapy appointment.
What better way to care for yourself than to improve yourself.
These are two good examples of caring for you in a positive way.
It may be interesting to learn that during economic shake ups
the sale of alcohol, candy, and cigarettes go up. Love yourself
and take care of yourself in a loving way.
They say history repeats it's self. Given this, we have to know
the economy will take a turn for the better. The world for that
matter will get better too. Until then, Choose to be happy. Choose
to be grateful. Choose to care for yourself. Choose to keep your
sanity! See you at the end of the rainbow!

Use
the Best Sports Equipment You Already Own Top
By Danny A Cabrera C.Ht.
The mind can improve your game
"Think Positive." "Mind over Matter." "If
you think you can, you can." We've all heard these phrases
in the locker room. Perhaps you've even tried to use them to improve
your game with little or no success. Why wouldn't you have? These
types of phrases seem to be part of our 21st century vernacular?
At the same time these phrases may have just become words to many.
Don't give up hope. This type of thinking does work and you can
truly "have game" in what ever sport you choose. You
may not have been successful or as successful as you would like
to have been in the past because you may not have been using your
head correctly. This is to say, you may not have been using both
your conscious and subconscious mind to help you accomplish your
goal. Your whole mind is the key to making these phrases a reality.
The mind works, how?
Our minds are comprised of two parts the conscious and the subconscious.
The two working together create who we are, our actions and reactions
and perceptions to the world around us, as well as the outcome
of the life we choose. You must have the two working together
as a team, just as in any team sport, if one team member is not
working with the others or fully understands the game strategy;
the score outcome is not successful. In order to be a better team
player the subconscious must believe and fully understand what
the conscious wants to do or achieve. In addition the conscious
must have faith and actions to match the desired goal. Once these
things are in place the desired aspiration or goal is more likely
to happen. Yes, you still have to practice your game. You still
have to have the physical stamina but by using the power of your
mind you won't have to physically work as hard or as long. Studies
show a person's or team's game ability is just as good if not
better from visualizing playing well 2 out of five days a week,
physically practicing the other 3 days as those people or teams
who only physically practice 5 days a week. Remember it is always
better to "Workout smarter not harder" AHHHH! You have
now passed Mind Games 101.
Mind Games 201
Now that you have a better understanding of how to use you head
to master your game goals. To make the process more potent you
should be in a relaxed state of mind. No, not relaxing watching
TV or having a beer, it must be focused relaxation. The subconscious
can better be communicated to in this state. This is where hypnotherapy
can be a useful tool. Yes, you can do the process yourself, there
are several relaxation techniques available to use. However, just
like many other things out there you can do yourself, such as
fixing your own car or remodeling your house. A professional is
often the wiser choice. A good hypnotherapist has the education
for how to best talk to the subconscious or perhaps even lessen
the potency of some of the negative things your old P.E. teacher
told you back in grade school. Words that may, today, hamper your
success. Do "Sissy" "You run like a pansy",
"You throw like a pansy" or expressions like these come
to mind? They may or may not. Negative information like this that
may be suppressed in your subconscious and will impede or hinder
any goal. A good hypnotherapist can help you clear any negative
information still holding you back.
The Mind is the Greatest Vessel
Our thoughts are very powerful and can be used in many ways. For
example, studies show cancer cells can be halted or eradicated
using the mind and visualization. Think outside the box for a
moment. If our minds can do this with cancer cells, would it be
possible to use our minds to change our physical body as well
as using it for achieving goals and aspirations? Would it be possible
to build more muscle mass, or increase your natural testosterone
levels? The possibilities are endless. Perhaps, we can discuss
these areas some other time. For now use your thoughts to your
best advantage, not only in sports but in every facet of your
life. The Mind Is The Greatest Vessel!

Tomorrow
(Mañana) Is Not Soon Enough Top
By Danny A. Cabrera C.Ht.
In a time of poodle skirts and duck tail hair during the middle
of the last century there was a hit parade tune titled Mañana(Tomorrow
is soon enough for me, made popular by Peggy Lee. This joyful
song talks of putting off for tomorrow what can/should be done
today. Many of us use the message of the song as our own personal
anthem, we procrastinate. Procrastination, we all do it. Psychologists
say the main reason is because it feels good. Procrastination
allows us to avoid risk and change. We turn instead to actions
which are more fun or easier to do and possibly with an immediate
payoff. However, like many good things in life, too much of a
good thing can become bad, food for example. Too much can make
us obese and unhealthy. How do we put procrastination in check
with our lives?
To begin, learn to know who you are and what you are putting off
doing. Many perform better under pressure. Is the quality of the
work you put off for the last minute better than what you may
have done had you not put it off? If so, continue what you have
been doing with those things. Keep in mind unless you have super
human powers like Superman or Wonder Woman, not everything can
or should be done while under pressure. Be honest with yourself
and do only those one or possibly two things under pressure. Are
the other things you put off costing you in some way? That is
do say is it costing you monetarily, creating conflict with your
friends and family, stress/anxiety. Are you paying for your procrastination
in a negative way? If the answer is yes, then these are the things
you must stop putting off. The best way to correct yourself is
to write a list of all the things you need to do. There is power
in the written word. Writing helps to better communicate with
your subconscious, the power house of all our actions. I recommend
using the following format by Stephen Covey. Categorize your "to
dos" into four lists the evening before.
1. Important and Urgent
2. Important and Not Urgent
3. Not Important but Urgent
4. Not Important and Not Urgent
Knowing who you are and the true value of things in your life
will help you fill in categories two, three, and four. Keep category
one open for things unforeseen or not planned for but do require
immediate attention such as a car accident, illness or natural
disaster.
The next morning begin your list. Motivate yourself by analyzing
the outcome of a completed job or task. Will it bring more money?
Will it make someone you care about happy? What benefit will you
get from it? How happy will you be? Whatever it might be, visualize
and feel the end results. You may want to make yourself accountable
for completing a task by letting others know you are going to
do something. Tell them the value it has for you. Tell them how
exited you will be when you complete the task. Tell them when
you will finish the task and so on. There is nothing wrong with
offering yourself a reward for completing a task. A nice lunch
instead of your usual brown bag perhaps, may be a nice reward.
Now simply begin. Just start one step at a time. Do not see the
whole task list as a huge monster or difficult to do. This only
deflates the energy you need for the tasks. To better explain,
think of climbing a huge mountain. From the lower ground this
may seem like a huge and tiresome task. However just by taking
one step at a time before you know it you have climbed a huge
summit. You can now look down and see what a feat you have accomplished.
Allow yourself to feel the pride of accomplishment. Inch by inch
it's a chinch.
Set your mind to do the things you've been putting off. Try the
above approach. Make it your own, modifying it to suit you. Work
with this formula for about six weeks. It takes about six weeks
for new behaviors to set in. If you still find yourself using
Peggy's song of procrastination as your personal anthem. If you
find yourself still tripping and not achieving success and you
find it easier to take the negative effects of procrastinating,
think self punishment. There may be some underlying reason. You
may have fear of success or an underlying feeling of non-deservingness.
If this is the case, come in to see me or someone like me to clear
this up quickly. Everyone deserves the best for themselves.

What's
The Bleepin' Secret? Top
By Danny A. Cabrera C.Ht.
This
article's title is a composite of two popular movies of course.
It's also a question I often ask myself, the 13 years I have been
in practice, when it comes to why people do not seeking a hypnotherapist
for helping themselves with many of life's problems or situations.
I suppose one reason may be the scary stereotyped image portrayed
of a hypnotherapist by the media. Movies often portray a therapist
as evil or deranged, making their subject experience horrible
things or perhaps do things they might not want to do while in
a hypnotic trance. Imagine a sinister looking hypnotist with a
gold pocket watch being swung back and forth and the words, You
are getting veeery sleepy. You will do as I command. Another reason
may be the pharmaceutical commercials now bomb barding the airwaves
touting the newest relief from a tiny pill. Now think of all the
dangers of those medications the small print at the end of those
commercials state. Do the disclaimers may cause liver damage,
diarrhea, or drowsiness, for example, come to mind? Who wants
to add insult to injury?
What many people do not realize is hypnotherapy has been an approved
form of therapy by the American Medical Association since 1958.
It is a therapy with no side effects of a pharmaceutical drug.
It is a safe and effective therapy. In fact statistics show a
93% success rate after 22 sessions over a 38% success rate after
600 sessions with psychoanalysis. Depending on what is being worked
on many can achieve results or begin to see results after only
six sessions. It is not commonly known the wide range of things
hypnotherapy can be utilized for. It is not just for smoking cessation
or weight loss Hypnotherapy can be used for serious things such
as pain management or relieving depression/anxiety, to simply
improving one's golf game. If it's a human condition or situation
hypnotherapy can help.
We are fortunate for the movies alluded to earlier for enlightening
us on the power of the mind. Many now are learning how to empower
themselves. Hypnotherapy is an excellent tool to use on that journey
of self betterment. Why the bleep don't you give it a try?
